How Mama Bird Started

About two years ago, Guna found herself in conversation with her partners about the rise of natural beauty brands.

Everywhere we looked, there were beautifully packaged international products- powdered shampoos, artisanal soaps, refillable deodorants. The branding was clever. The storytelling was polished. The price tags? Exorbitant.

As a freelance Brand Consultant, I’ve worked behind the scenes with brands that proudly claim to be ethical, sustainable, and purpose-driven. On paper, everything looked good. Certifications. Campaigns. Carefully crafted messaging. I’ve seen how powerful branding can shape perception- and how easily the word “ethical” can become part of the aesthetic.

But when I got closer to some founders and saw how certain businesses were actually run - how poorly managed their staff were, how stretched and undervalued their teams felt- something didn’t sit right.

This is how I knew Guna from “Mama Bird” is different.

Because what is the point of selling “clean” products if the way you treat people behind the scenes is anything but?

That is why I support Mama Bird- not just for its products, but for its ethos.

Ethics Isn’t a Marketing Angle- It’s a Culture

Mama Bird was never meant to be another brand that simply looked ethical.

It was built on the conviction that a business should operate ethically from the inside out.

To us, that means:

  • Fair wages and respectful working conditions

  • Thoughtful growth — not scaling at any cost

  • Ingredients we would confidently use on our own children

  • Honest communication, not exaggerated claims

Mindful consumers don’t just care about what’s in the bottle — they care about who made it, how it was made, and what the brand stands for when no one is watching.

And we are those consumers too.

Starting Small- On Purpose

Right now, Mama Bird is still in its early nest-building stage.

This brand crafts small batches in their own space- originally for their family, and now to share with the rest of you. Each bar is made with intention, tested on our own skin first, and refined slowly.

What Mama Bird is not:

Mass-producing.
Rushing growth.
Chasing trends.

The brand is building carefully.

The heart behind Mama Bird has always been this:
That it would grow organically with the support of this community. And that one day, with your trust and encouragement, they will be able to hire thoughtfully, create meaningful employment, and build a team culture rooted in respect and dignity from day one.

Not because it sounds good in a brand manifesto- but because that was the reason they started.

Built as Good Employers First

Mama Bird was founded on a simple but firm belief:

Profitability must not come at the expense of people.
Sustainability is not just a packaging decision.
The term “ethical” is not just a label.

When ingredients are thoughtfully sourced, when batches are carefully crafted, when the people behind the scenes are treated with dignity- that care translates.

It becomes something you can feel.

From Our Family to Yours

Mama Bird began in the home- inspired by their quest for something better for their children’s sensitive skin. The desire to create something gentler, cleaner, and truly nourishing.

But it is growing into something bigger.

A brand built slowly.
A business built responsibly.
A community built intentionally.

They are not trying to be the biggest. They are trying to be the most honest.

And if you choose to support Mama Bird, you’re not just buying soap.

You’re helping them build a nest- one that we hope will eventually shelter not just their families, but others too.
